I ordered the set of Fox Kid books after several weeks of umming and ahhing over whether to get them. My amazing, clever son, Joshua, who is dyslexic. The day they arrived, I picked him up from school, and on the drive home, he told me he’d just been tested on his reading. He said he’d "tried his best," but hadn’t moved up a level. The pain in his voice was shattering.
With a lump in my throat, I thought, "Maybe now’s not the best time to give him the books." But he had already noticed the package, so I handed it to him.
He opened it and immediately said, “These aren’t for me—I can’t read chapter books.” My heart broke. I gently encouraged him to open one and just have a look.
He did. And he started reading.
By the time we got home, he had finished a whole chapter. The pride in his voice was incredible. We then spent the next 20 minutes reading together—all 70 pages. He was so excited that he could do it.
That Friday, Joshua received a school award for “increased confidence.” Thank you, Fox Kid, for being a contributing factor in that transformation.
I truly hope Adrien knows what he has done by creating these books. He has given out-of-the-box children the key to their reading superpower—the one they so desperately need.
I honestly thought these books would sit on the kitchen table for weeks, untouched. But here we are already on Book 3, and Joshua has even asked me to make him a Fox Kid costume for Book Week!
My only criticism? There are only eight books. Please, please write more. And thank you—from the bottom of my heart—for creating them.
