Description
Explicit teaching support and carefully constructed practice for reading, spelling and writing for Stages Plus 4 and 5
Little Learners Love Literacy® is an explicit and sequential literacy program that teaches ALL children to read, write and spell with confidence. Created from evidence-based research, this new edition Teacher Activity Resource book will ensure teaching of reading, spelling and handwriting is effective, targeted and explicit.
How do I use it?
The Teacher Activity Resource books provide simple lesson plans and activities for each week. Each lesson is designed around the LLLL explicit teaching model:
Use the TAR alongside the Little Learners Love Literacy® decodable books and practise games such as Sound Swap, Tim’s Quiz and Read, write and draw.
Scope and sequence:
Stage Plus 4: ll, ss, ff, zz, suffix -s, suffix -es
Stage 5: adjacent consonants (CVCC, CCVC, CCVCC), multisyllabic words, suffix -ed, ck
In Stages Plus 4 and 5, children continue to build their phonics knowledge and skills, as well as building their knowledge of morphology for the first time. Children learn their first consonant digraphs (2 letters, 1 sound), they also learn to read and spell more complex word structures/longer words using their knowledge of the simple alphabetic code from stages 1-4. The focus is on reading and spelling – reversible skills which need to be linked for the most effective teaching. In morphology lessons they will learn to add their new suffixes to base words to spell new words with new meanings.
