In Stage 7 Unit 2, children continue to learn the long vowel sounds and their alternative spellings, as well as building their knowledge of morphology. Children learn the r-controlled phonemes /ar/, /or/, /er/ and /air/ focusing on the most common graphemes. Resources for teaching additional alternative graphemes are included and can be used for extension. The focus is on reading and spelling – reversible skills which need to be linked for the most effective teaching.
